The PEDS solution seeks to develop a mobile application to provide user friendly and age appropriate medical content to explain medical procedures using videos, infographics and credible articles to parents and pediatric patients. PEDS uses AI to curate custom medical information to ease the fear and stress patients face in the doctor's office. PEDS also seeks to develop an integrated web based application to be used by physicians, healthcare professionals and medical clinics to review patient data, send medical information, communicate securely with patients and caregivers, and review wearable medical device information. Future phases of development include medical charting, medical scheduling, and integration with Electronic Medical Records and Electronic Patient Records.

The goal of the initial phase is aimed at providing a strong foundation that meets all the legislative and regulatory requirements for personal health information, and implements key business and solution features, establishing a baseline to be used in all future releases. The solution has a broad scope which includes integration of a wearable device, a mobile app and a web app, an administrative interface, online payment processing, subscription management, 2FA, application logging and record of use.

The solution will be available in English only and should initially be released in a limited market, starting in Manitoba and then expanding to the rest of Canada, excluding the province of Quebec

This is an ambitious and aggressive project that will require detailed knowledge of the medical application landscape in Canada, including all legislative and security requirements that come into play when you are a trustee of medical health records. This project requires access to specialized resources with expertise and background in Healthcare IT, PHIA, PHIPPA, HIPAA. There are additional key roles which will need to be filled, which are outside the technology development landscape, including legal, regulatory consulting, market analysis, information security and PHIA privacy and risk management.

The solution will consist of the following technology components:

  • Subscriber Experience (Mobile App): Mobile medical app (English) utilized by PEDS patient and parent/caregiver subscribers to create profiles, search curated data, send/receive messages and journal entries with healthcare providers
  • Subscriber Experience (Web Site): Responsive browser-based website (English) utilized by PEDS healthcare subscribers to create clinic profiles, patient profiles, send medical information, send/receive messages with patients, review patient wearable device information, review patient/caregiver journal entries.
  • Administrator Experience (Administration portal): Browser based administration (English) portal utilized by PEDS team to manage multiple areas of the application and application users.
  • Integrated Feeds: Real-time and daily interfacing data feeds
  • AI Engine: A decoupled yet integrated AI subsystem utilizing algorithms to drive a chatbot style search and to sort and classify medical search result information
  • Customer Support: A centralized ticket-based tool to manage and respond to customer support requests.
  • Credit Card Payments: An external PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliant solution enabling card on file storage, and subscription payment management.
  • Audit Logging: Record of user activity (RoUA) as per legislative requirements
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Secure and scalable server and networking infrastructure hosting the SaaS< application components.
  • Communications: Mobile app alerts and notifications set up by user preferences. Web app email and SMS based communications triggered by events
